When I told friends we were going to see ?Frankenweenie? many of them said, ?Isn?t that going to be awfully creepy?? ? I wasn?t sure, so I decided that the youngest daughter would stay home and the middle daughter and I would head out for some mommy and me time. ?If she didn?t like it, we could always leave. ? But that wasn?t the case at all, as we left she was asked, ?So what did you think about it?? ?Her response? ??It was funny!?
Filmed in black and white and 3D, ?Frankenweenie? is the brain child of Tim Burton (also of ?Corpse Bride and The Nightmare ?Before Christmas). ?It is a story resurrected from Burton?s own childhood, when he lost his dog.
In ?Frankenweenie? ?Victor is a young boy more interested in science than sports, who loves nothing better than to spend time with his best friend and dog Sparky. ? However a home run gone foul caused a tragedy for the whole family as their darling dog was hit by a car retrieving it. ? Victor is heart-broken, but thanks to the instruction of his science teacher?Mr. Rzykruski (voice of Martin Landau) and a passing comment made by his father and idea is sparked ? to bring Sparky back to life.
However, the secret of Sparky got out, and mean boys competed to see which one could use this science to resurrect animals from the pet cemetery, hoping to use it to win the science fair.
But not all science works the same way, because in this case, they didn?t follow the ?directions? but made them up as they went along. ? ?Instead of science fair award-winning projects they ended up with monstrous results, which could ruin their small town of New Holland.
