Parking fine concerns around University Stadium

Residents who live around University Stadium in Albuquerque are worried about getting parking tickets during Saturday's home Lobo football game.

Some new permit parking signs recently went up around the stadium. But residents say they're still waiting to get permits to park. Many are worried about being ticketed and fined.

The permit system is now in place after years of complaints from some residents regarding overcrowded parking from athletic events, along with vandalism and littering problems due to people tailgating.

City officials tell KOB Eyewitness News 4 the neighborhood association didn't provide information to residents about how to get permits.

The city is now stepping in to help out.

Residents of the Clayton Heights Neighborhood will have to visit the Albuquerque parking division in person to get a permit.

The division is located in the Plaza Del Sol Building Downtown at 600 Second Street Northwest.

Residents will need a copy of their vehicle registration for any car they want to register, along with identification to prove they live in the neighborhood.

City parking officials say they typically limit the number of permits to three per household, but may work with residents if they need more.

The city will now send out letters notifying residents on how to get a parking permit. And uUntil people have a chance to get one the city will not issue fines for permit parking violations. However the city will still continue to ticket people for other parking violations around the football stadium, including people who block driveways and park illegally.

Ffor more information on parking permits call the city's 311 information line.
